CubaGallery

This space may be quiet for much of this week and next. I'm flying out to Melbourne for a work trip, but also plan for some fun. I had wanted to line up some guest posts while I'm away, but I ran out of time to organise that. Since I'm staying with my brother and bringing my laptop with me though, I may be able to squeeze in a post or two while I'm away. I'll be back home on 26 April, hopefully with some Melbourne tales to share (and some neat photos if I remember to photograph things).

Does anyone have any Melbourne tips they'd like to give me of places I absolutely must visit? I always forget to ask this when I go somewhere, and I think that the people who live in a place know its best areas.

Also, I would really appreciate your votes for the blog competition I entered while I'm away - thank you!

if you make it to Fitzroy, there's a really cool restaurant on Brunswick Street that really impressed me - Palookaville. http://www.palookaville.com.au/

enjoy your trip!

Hooray for your Melbourne trip! I'm a big fan of Kinfolk cafe (http://www.kinfolk.org.au/), which is on Bourke Street down near Southern Cross Station.

As a newcomer to Melbourne myself I can recommend places but I don't necessarily know if they're the BEST places. However I have found Broadsheet (http://www.broadsheet.com.au/melbourne/) to be a good source of tips. And it has a handy iPhone app to tell you what's open and nearby.

I'm up in North Carlton (near Rathdowne Street and Brunswick Street) so if you are nearby, shoot me an email and I'll come say hi.

Have a fantastic trip. I do like the photo as well - contrast between light and dark gives it almost a "set like" quality

Have a fabulous time in Melbourne! There are so many things to do there but sometimes my favourite is to simply walk and see where my feet take me.

I've voted for your wonderful blog. :)

I second everything Primoeza said! I'd also suggest Brother Baba Budan for coffee (or their sister cafe Seven Seeds). Pop into Craft Victoria for hand made goodies. Make a trip to Heide gallery if you can. Not sure if you're already seen "Life in Movement" but it's showing for a limited time at Nova Cinema at the moment. I saw it and absolutely loved it. Chin Chin is the so-hot-right-now dinner spot. It's great but comes with all the less great things that come with being so-hot-right-now.
Other than Broadsheet, check out the Three Thousand website too.
Hope you have a great time!

I had a delicious meal at Hellenic Republic on Lygon St a few years ago. (http://www.hellenicrepublic.com.au/).
I second/third everyone's Heide recommendations. And if you happen to find yourself in East Brunswick, go to New Day Rising on Blyth Street. Simple, lovely food and great coffee and if the most beautiful woman you've ever seen is working, that's my friend Nadia. Tell her you know me!

I'm a bit late chiming in here but I wanted to say that Sonido cafe on Gertrude Street in Fitzroy is well worth a visit. Actually if you only have time to explore Fitzroy and Collingwood then you can't go wrong.

I hope you have a lovely time in Melbourne. You can count me as a fan who has just voted for your blog!

Thanks for all the tips guys, I really appreciated them! Melbourne was fantastic, I wish I lived there.

Naomi: I wish I had time, there were so many people I wanted to see, but I was quite busy! Thank you for offering though, maybe next time?
